English Language and Literature

Introduction

The Department of English was established in 2012. Currently the department offers BS English four-year program. The department also intends to launch MS/M.Phil (Language and Literature) program in near future. The department assists other departments of the University by offering interdisciplinary courses, e.g. Functional English, Academic writing and communication skills. The curriculum of the above mentioned program and courses have been designed following HEC recommendations and new trends in the discipline of English. The syllabus provides an opportunity to the students to compete and excel with the growing need ofthe market. Ever since its genesis, the department has been vivacious in all its academic activities. It is an excellent English Language and Literature learning centre fulfilling the needs of diverse range of students by focusing on their personal, academic and professional grooming.

Department of English Language and Literature aims to be the centre of great learning and excellence for the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and for the whole country. The Department will strive to be a standard bearer in imparting quality education in Linguistics and Literature. It aims to produce individuals with great analytical capabilities and critical thinking so they can contribute in favour and upliftment of societal interest.

Our mission is to assist students to adept the aesthetic as well as didactic purpose ofliterature. It intends to apply the existing knowledge of linguistics on the local languages of Pakistan in order to uplift them to international standards. The department also looks forward to translate the literary works of the local writers with diverse qualities to have international recognition for the country. It also intends to produce highly humanized and philanthropic citizens. Conducting national and international seminars, workshops and symposiums to attract people from diverse communities is also on the priority list of the department. Another aim of the department is to introduce English Language and Literature as a global means of communication in conjunction with national linguistics aspirations towards the ultimate objective of evolving the Pakistani English along with contemporary trends around the world.

  • Students with F.A/F. Sc having at least 45% Marks are eligible to apply.
